Faux Painting for Profit » Faux Painting Ceilings – Decorative Painting Business Hurts

When you think about starting a decorative painting business, you must realize that some jobs will hurt… physically.

Painting floors and walls below the 3 ft. level, will hurt your knees.  Get yourself a good pair of kneepads.  Tile layers and carpet layers use these all the time.

Standing for hours on hard surfaces and ladders will hurt your back.  I learned to adjust my stance early on in my painting career.  Tuck in your tummy as if you are doing sit-ups. You might consider a standing appointment with a good chiropractor as well.

Sometimes, repetitive motion will give your arm or hand a cramped feeling.  I have a Velcro arm strap like the ones used for tennis elbow that works very well.  I also have an elastic hand brace the is especially useful when your hand cramps up and the paint brush will not stay in your hand.

I have recommended before and I will encourage you now to invest in a soft neck brace for all your faux painting ceiling jobs.  It may look a bit silly, but it gives your head a nice place to rest when you are looking up.

I've pointed you towards the blog of Robert Schott in Tampa Bay Area, Florida before. Here is an article showing some great faux painted ceilings and his techniques.  He also talks about how he needs to see the chiropractor for an adjustment!
