Faux Painting Business – Working From Home
Posted by: THAT Painter Lady in Start Your BusinessBeing in the Faux Finishing Business has it's challenges. One of them is that working from home doesn't seem like you're really working to most people. Even if I must load up my van with ladders and tools and travel to every jobsite, this isn't always viewed as a job. Most of my friends and relatives don't think I really work. I mean I don't have a real job.
So most people think I have all day to run errands, car pool or talk on the phone.
The problem is my job is looked at as a hobby, not as a legitimate business the way you would look at a teacher or secretary. I don't have a boss, I set my own hours and I don't have to wear pantyhose to work.
So how do I make them see that I my business is a "real faux finishing business"? How do most of those close to you contact you? The telephone. Here are my best tips on how to get everyone in your life to accept that you have a REAL Faux Finishing Business.
- Get caller ID on your home, business and cell phone. If the call isn't from a client or business partner don't answer it. Call back later.
- Your answering machine and voice messaging should be professional business- like. Let the caller know they have reached a business and you will return their call as soon as possible.
- Set hours. Let everyone in your life know that you are "at work" during those times. This doesn't mean that you can't change those hours..or play hooky from your own work schedule. It does mean that you have legitimate work hours, and others should respect them.
