How To Write Your Own eBookHow To Write And Publish Your Own ebook

Anyone can write their own money-making ebook… even you!

I just got this email from Christine and Lazaro. They are planning to write an eBook tutorial all about painting underwater murals. This is so perfect for professional faux and mural painters… share your knowledge with the world!

Here is the email and my reply:

Hi Debra,

Your e-mails are very helpful to us.

Christine and I are getting ready to do a large underwater mural for a pediatric clinic. We'll take plenty of pictures and try to have a little tutorial for those that are planning to do one themselves.

I have been planning to write an on line book with mural tips but we can't seem to put the paintbrushes down long enough to do so!  I  better count my blessings right?

I hope we can do this tutorial justice and be able to help anyone coming to your site for help.

We are starting on Monday, March 10th. It will take all of two months to complete, it's a large area.

If there's any advice on how to write this or what we should cover please do not hesitate to send it.

We will be painting coral, fish and something to  look like the lost city of Atlantis complete with ruins and statues. I plan on  covering several techniques to include coral, shading, and how to give things a distant look as if seen through water. It's going to be a fun one!

Happy painting Debra! Talk to you soon.

Sincerely, Lazaro and Christine.

Hi Lazaro and Christine,

I would love to help you with this project… It will be so helpful to my readers!

I have often thought of doing such a project myself, but I am not painting at this time… so the fact that you are taking on this project is wonderful!

So… here is my first suggestions:

First… don't worry about the actual writing part at this time… it will cramp your creative juices while painting.

Take way more pictures than you think you will need. And take many closeups of what your hands are doing and the brush is doing etc.

If you can swing it… you will make more money if you can do part of your tutorial as a video. I got all the equipment needed to start doing video tutorials for under $500 and it has paid off in spades!

If you can get something to record your voice… a little voice tape or digital recorder… and record your thoughts and ideas about each process… this will help out so much when it comes time to write the actual directions in your book.

Also… take notes when you can… so you can refer back to them when writing the tutorial. If anything funny or amusing or disastrous happens while your painting this project… record that information in some way. A bit of humorous anecdotes will go along way in giving a tutorial purchaser confidence in your abilities. I know it doesn't sound like that would work… but it does.

Make sure you are taking notes and pictures of your paint purchases and equipment even before you get started with the job. I often forgot to record something important and had to go back and recreate it.

The prep work on the area and walls you are going to paint is just as important as the actual painting. So if you had to patch and prime or tape off etc… you must be keeping a record of that as well.

Now… you need to get all those recording devices in place.

I will be glad to help you as you progress… but you only need to be worried about capturing the information for now.

In your notebook… you should have chapter headings in place. A few pages designated to each chapter you might put into the tutorial.

Some chapter headings might be:

  • Prep… yikes… can't we just start painting?
  • Paint… the ingredient list
  • Equipment… safety first
  • Coral… What is at the bottom of your ocean?
  • Fish… your not painting Nemo!
  • Shadows and Shading… make your painting pop with realism.
  • Have you lost Atlantis??? Where to find it in your underwater mural.
  • How to look through water… without goggles.

This type of chapter headings in your notebook will help you set the tone of your tutorial. Make it fun and personal. You can add and delete stuff as you go… but keeping a running journal is so important.

I have to say… I did write the tutorials before I started working on a video to go with it.  It gave me a good guideline as to what I needed to cover in the video. But… it was hard to write before I had painting the actual wall, because I could visualize the process, but I explained it better while I was actually doing the process… so I had to go back and edit the book part several times before publishing.

Keep me posted and ask anything… I am rooting for this project!

Debra
